Belstone pictures studio

Belstone pictures was created by Finn Cardigan Bruce it came around after his love for films was cemented at Hurtwood House Film Academy, here he started off directing and producing various documentaries. Leaving Hurtwood Finn founded Belstone pictures with a big desire to make films that always pushed the boundaries whilst keeping inspirational and spellbinding stories.

Belstone pictures studio location is London, Oakley street. Belstone pictures has been running since 2012, but Finn began to focus solely on the company in 2016. 

Three of the studios most popular movies are, Tucked, Tank 432 and Broken Cove. 

The budget of Tucked was 50k and the gross profit made from this movie was 22k, this movie did not have a set genre, Tucked was about a real life problem. This makes the movie an even bigger success due to the amount of backlash and people who would've just ignored this movie due to men dressing up. 

    

The studio has been releasing one film each year however, from 2021 they aim to release 2 to 3 films a year. So far in production the only known movie is Sumotherhood.

The advantages of being small institution like Belstone, is that they don't have to spend that much money on the production of movies. They can use cheaper editing software and cameras additionally, they don't lose much money from pirating as they are a small institution. 

Walt Disney Studio

Walt Disney studio was named after Walt Disney, he began his career as a gifted animator he founded a smaller studio called Laugh O Gram films in Kansas City and went on to producing a series of cartoons based on fables and fairy tales from 1921. This studio was very short lived as thanks to predatory business deals and his own inexperience he became bankrupt practically before he released any of his cartoons.

The Walt Disney company started in 1923 in a small office in Los Angeles, it was there, Walt Disney and his brother produced a series of short live action animated films collectively called the Alice Comedies. Disney has been running for 97years. 

Today Walt Disney studios are located in Burbank, California this is their main headquarters. Disney isn't owned by the family anymore, they are in fact owned by multiple corporations with the largest shareholder being Vanguard group Inc. 

Disney is a massive Conglomerate as they own many other large companies, Disney owns 4/5 of the dominant top 5 film studios, including Disney, the other massive conglomerates Disney owns are, Warners Brothers, Universal studios and Paramount.

The biggest budget movies from Disney this this year was Shang-Chi and the legend of the ten rings, which had a production cost of 200million and a net gross of 212million. The next highest grossing movie was Black Widow, which had a production cost of 500million, and a gross of 400million. Finally F9 the Fast Saga is the second highest grossing movie this year, with a box office of 716million made with a budget of 200million. 

Disney has movies in production for the next 10 years, 20 movies from Disney are already in development, including upcoming blockbusters like Dune. 

One advantage of Disney being a big institution is that they don't have to take risks they can use above the line costs, as they are known everywhere with access to A class actors, locations and more. Furthermore, Disney has multiple sources of income, from merchandise alone they made $8billion from cars. They also have marketing exhibition, this is due to them distributing their product on their own website, this website is called Disney Plus. Disney Plus is a massive success for this company due to the amount of users after reaching their 5 year target which was 95million only in only one year.

Poster analysis - Avengers Infinity War

 

The title of the film is in a sharpened solid text with a glare beside the A catching the audiences’ eyes instantly. This sharp gold colour shows that this movie is going to be good, this sharpened gold look to the title shows prestigious value, it shows that the movie is not going to be dull, and this title font shows that action is going to be throughout the movie. The A is the typical logo for the film which creates brand identity. Because it’s in capital letters it gives the effect of being loud just like the movie itself, these capital letters also show that the movie is going to be more serious. Infinity war is encased inside two solid lines showing that this is going to be a very important movie also.

The marvel logo above the movie title is iconic as it is used for all of its products such as films, Tv shows, comics and more. Marvel has a very strong brand identity for its merchandise and large fanbase. Just this marvel logo alone will attract some people instantly, this is because of how well known this franchise is, no matter the significance of the background.

 

The date of when the film is out is directly below the title in the centre of the poster drawing people’s attention to it. Using different font and colour to the title makes the date even more obvious with letters in bold. Showing the release date of the movie is important as it makes people more excited for the film’s release, causing them to do more research into the movie and to read up on it some more.

 

Mise on scene is used to give the poster an indication of tone, there is a lot of bright colours and flashes as well as the scenery around the poster looking like space. This could suggest that the movie will be set in space and will have an action-packed story line relating to the take-over of space. The colour red hindering around the whole poster could suggest that the movie will majorly revolve around the bad guy, as well as it could also suggest that the villain has a upper-hand throughout the whole movie, being more powerful than all the good guys. We can also see a gigantic ring circling around the characters, which indicates this will be a very important place in the movie possibly affecting the outcome completely and saving everyone.

 

The main character of this movie Thanos is placed in the middle of this poster which draws our attention to him this creates a strong brand identity for the previous marvel films, directly under Thanos we can see a very well-known character from the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) which is iron man. This creates high expectation as Iron Man is usually seen as one of the most popular characters in the marvel series and with Thanos appearing a lot larger we can tell that this is going to be a new popular villain, possibly powerful enough to match the whole avengers. Furthermore, we can see Thor and Captain America right beneath them as well as a few other very well-known heroes like spiderman, Hulk, Star Lord, Falcon, Doctor Strange, Black Widow and Black Panther. Each of these characters apart from the biggest, Thanos, all staring as the main characters in their own movies who take up a massive part in the MCU. These are all very popular characters in which all have their own amazing place in the Marvel industry. People that see this poster can tell that this movie is going to be insanely ambitious and is going to make history in the film industry. In this poster we can see this new villain being introduced to us, Thanos. This shows that he is going to take a massive part in not only this movie but will be talked about throughout every single movie branching from this one, who will very much be widely recognised by the whole of the internet.

 

Looking at all the heroes and villains faces we can see they all posse’s the same very serious facial expression which possibly could mean that this movie won’t just be about saving a planet, a city or a place, but this movie will actually show everyone fighting for their lives, as well as the whole entire fate of the universe.

 

The movie also looks at some other parts of Mise on Scene like camara and gender, I can infer from this poster that both genders are stared in this movie, this includes the girls not being stereotypical for the and dressed like a bimbo for the male gaze. This shows that this movie is for everyone as both genders are used here as main characters. All the characters are shown to be in a mixture of a close-up shot and a mid-shot, all positioned in various stances, yet again enhancing that this is a big action film.

My Favourite film

My favourite most recent film is called the firm, this movie was set in the 1980s where Dom the teenager finds himself drawn into the charismatic world of football casuals, influenced by the firms top boy, Bex. He is accepted to this gang for his fast mouth and sense of humour, Dom quickly becomes one of the boys, but as Bex and his gang clash with rival firms the violence very soon spirals out of control. The director of this film is Nick Love, with the main cast including Paul Anderson as Bex, Calum Macnab as Dom, and Daniel Mays as Yeti.

One reason why I chose to write about this film is because of how much I relate to the main teenage character Dom. I relate so much so Dom because of the clothing he wears, he starts off wearing boring clothes which soon change to the classic clothing of 1980 footballers, this clothing is one of the most unique part of this film. The clothing in the Firm isn’t ever seen anymore, it’s old fashioned but very admirable. I also relate to Dom because of his attitude towards life, he strives to actually be a part of something, unlike his friend which he soon leaves behind for a greater cause; this sacrifice is very powerful as it shows he has initiative.

The Firm has one of the best soundtracks out there, with a mix of classic songs from the 1980s, this includes a variety of old songs which fit in so well with the whole film. Classic songs including, Tainted Love, get down on it and Don’t stop the Music. Bex is known as the top man of the movie, known all over the firms as one of the most vicious leaders, throughout the movie Dom is brought into the Firm and settles in thinking it would be a fun experience. He soon realises the extents each firm goes, to assert dominance over all the other football firms, this violence soon leads to the death of Bex who Dom respected and idolised. This movie shows the dangers of Hooliganism and the dangerous extents some people go to just to gain respect and power. The overall movie is funny and embodies how it was like as a teenage football supporter back in the 1980s very well. Another reason I liked the movie so much is because of how hated the infamous director is, because other people hated it I grew to love it. With the movie also including one of my favourite actors in the cast who played the character Bex, I enjoyed the movie that little bit more. The Firm relates to the football fans we have today, showing how it is to be so passionate for something. This film is not just about football violence, it is about men, it shows how boys become men in a dysfunctional corrupt society.

A genre is used to help the institution identify their audience and market the film.

 so important because is helps the institution identify their audience and market the film, it fits the audiences expectations and it's used to help to identify what the audience likes. Furthermore, establishing a genre helps to make the film. 

Sub-genre exists to establish a category within a category, this makes the media product appeal to more people. 

Hybrid genre is where two or more main genres are combined, this can be affective due to the plot-line being unpredictable and makes the audience more involved. As well as, these genres appeal to a lot more people, one of the most popular hybrid movie franchises is Marvel.

The key things that are associated with genre is the appealing to different audiences, genre is fitted in film to fit audience expectations, it also helps people identify what they like. For example if someone is looking for a movie that scares them, they would look for a horror genre. Furthermore, if someones looking for a light hearted movie to laugh at they would look in the comedy genre.
